LAST CALL FOR FLIGHTS TO HEAVEN – LUKE 13:22-35
How confident are you that you’ve entered through Jesus’ “narrow door” (v24)?
1) What does Jesus say to those with questions?
“Then Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem. Someone asked him, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?”
He said to them, “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. (Luke 13:22-24)
When trying to answer questions about God, some places
are better to start at than others.
i) Where does the narrow door take you?
“People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God” (Luke 13:29)
ii) Who gets to go to the party?
“’Sir, open the door for us.’ – “But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’ “Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’ “But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’” (Luke 13:25-27)
iii) Why does God exclude evildoers from the party?
iv) So only good people get to go to Heaven????
“No one is good – except God alone” (Luke 18:19)
v) Why does Jesus talk about there being loads of people at the party?
“People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God” (Luke 13:29)
- Everyone is evil
- Evildoers can’t go to the party
- But the party’s got people in it…how?
vi) So how do you get into the party?
Entry into the party is not based on: ________________________________
“the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45)
“Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.” (1Peter 3:18)
The ________ is the narrow door.
vii) So how do you go through the narrow door?
SORRY –
THANK-YOU
PLEASE
2) What does Jesus say to the “confused”?
“’Sir, open the door for us.’ – “But he will answer, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from.’ “Then you will say, ‘We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets.’ “But he will reply, ‘I don’t know you or where you come from. Away from me, all you evildoers!’” (Luke 13:25-27)
Is doing churchy things enough for you to be saved?
Be certain!
“Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13).
“If if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).
3) What does Jesus say to his followers?
“At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him, “Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod wants to kill you. – “Go tell that fox, ‘I will drive out demons and heal people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.'” (Luke 13:31-32)
Followers of Jesus do the things Jesus did…and Jesus got on with demonstrating the Kingdom of Heaven.
Courage & LOVE
“”O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing!” (Luke 13:34)

Lord Jesus, Sorry for all the wrong I’ve done. For the times I’ve disobeyed or ignored you. Thank-you for dying for me, for being my rescuer and giving me a fresh start in life. Please come and by my Lord, and give me the gift of your Holy Spirit to help me live for you from now on. Amen.
