A GOOD STEWARD? LUKE 16:1-15

 

Why is Jesus always after our money?

 

“No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.” (Luke 16:13)

Be the master of your money, not its slave!

1) Freedom is not ownership, it’s stewardship

“The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it” (Psalm 24:1)

 

“There was a rich man whose manager was accused of wasting his possessions.” (Luke 16:1)

“”So he called in each one of his master’s debtors. He asked the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’ ” ‘Eight hundred gallons of olive oil,’ he replied. “The manager told him, ‘Take your bill, sit down quickly, and make it four hundred….The master commended the dishonest manager because he had acted shrewdly. For the people of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own kind than are the people of the light. ‘” (Luke 16:5-6,8)

2) Freedom is using God’s money to build’s God’s kingdom

“I tell you, use worldly wealth to gain friends for yourselves, so that when it is gone, you will be welcomed into eternal dwellings.” (Luke 16:9)

How do we win friends for heaven?

3) Freedom is managing small things faithfully.

“”Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much. So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?” (Luke 16:10-12)

Regular or One-Off Giving

The most effective way to give regularly is by setting up a standing order with your bank. This enables you to choose the amount you give, and the time and frequency with which you give it (for example, weekly or monthly, on pay-day etc.). Collection Bowls

We understand that some people prefer to give physically, rather than electronically. To aid you in this, we have two collection bowls available on a Sunday morning, situated at the entrance to the two main aisles in church. We also pass a collection bowl round during our services. If you are a visitor please don’t feel under any obligation to give – this is for church members.

 

If you are a taxpayer, to enable us to claim an additional 25p for every £1 you give, please use the giving envelopes provided beside the bowls.
