Behind the curtain #8: Betrayed – Mark 14:12-26

MARK 14:10-31

Can a Christian fall away from the faith? Can Jesus’ promises be trusted?

“…this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. 40 For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John 6:39-40)

i) Everyone who looks to Jesus and believes in him shall be ______

ii) None of those that are saved are _____.

Judas – chooses to follow Jesus, then betrays him, and is sent to ______.

Peter – chooses to follow Jesus, then betrays him, and is sent to _________.

1) THE BIBLE DISTINGUISHES TRUE FAITH FROM FALSE FAITH.

“A farmer went out to sow his seed. 4 As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. 6 But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain. 8 Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, multiplying thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times.” (Mark 4:3-8)

 True faith is _______

True faith is _________

He who stands firm to the end will be saved” (Mt.24:13)

2) COMMUNION IS AN ENCOURAGEMENT TO TRUE FAITH

n.b. You can read the Passover story in Exodus 12.

3) RECEIVING COMMUNION DOESN’T SAVE YOU

Jesus is betrayed by… “one who dips bread into the bowl with me.” (Mark 14:20)

4) TRUE FAITH IS REPENTENT FAITH

All of a Christian’s life is one of repentance

Repent means turn around.

The difference between Judas and Peter is that Peter repents.
