The Vicar - Barry Unwin
I grew up in a family of non-churchgoers, proclaimed myself an atheist as a teenager, and then Jesus brought me to my senses when I was 16.
Since then I’ve been to university twice, married my wonderful wife Carol, been blessed with five great children, and now I’m really excited to be helping God’s people grow grow God’s kingdom here in New Barnet.
I hail from up north - so supporting Sunderland is in my blood. When I’m not being a dad to my kids and a husband to Carol, I enjoy walking, photography, most sports and debating things over coffee (who’s buying?).
Lay Reader - Geoff Fletcher
My wife Eileen and I have lived in Barnet for over 30 years and our two daughters live and work in the Borders (Scotland) and in Kiwoko (Uganda).
My Christian faith became established when I was a teenager, and I’ve been involved in Christian activities in Edinburgh, Barnet and elsewhere ever since.
As Reader, I support various areas of ministry in St James's, and my work as Stewardship Adviser in the Diocese of St Albans takes me to churches across Herts and Beds.
My recreations include walking and listening to classical music.
Church Warden - Marion Storey
I became a Christian as a teenager when I went with my family to a Christian holiday centre with about 400 other people, I was expecting it to be really boring, full of Christian fuddy duddies, but in fact there were loads of young people there who had a personal relationship with God and a real purpose in their lives.
I heard many stories of how God had changed these peoples lives, and about how much He loved me .I decided that I wanted to trust God, so I asked Him to forgive me for all the wrong things I had done, and come into my life as my friend and saviour.
Since then God has been with me in all the good and bad times in my life, giving me peace, comfort, guidance, love and joy.

Church Warden - Mike Macey
“I have been a Christian all my life with both my parents having been very active in church life.
Key moments: I started altar serving when I was five, confirmed at my school, attended a lay course for two years, ran a Sunday school for three years and family worship services for eight years.
Somewhere in there I raised three children qualified as a chartered accountant, and God has regularly used my accountancy skills whilst challenging me to work out my faith at work. I have attended several churches and relish the community challenges here at St James.”
